As a part of the Continental concern, VDO started its activities in the area of injection systems in 2000, when it began its cooperation with PSA. The result of this collaboration is the installation of common rail injection systems to 2.0 HDI, 2.0 HDI / TDCI, 1.4 HDI / TDCI and 2.7 HDI / TDCI engines, and most recently also 3.6TDCi (Range Rover), 1.6 HDI (PSA) and 1.6TDi (Volkswagen).
The original Siemens VDO brand no longer exists, CONTINENTAL uses the VDO brand in the aftermarket, creating another giant in the industry.
A completely unique product from Continental is the diesel injection system called P-PD or Piezo - Pumpe - Duese (electronically controlled piezo associated injectors), which is used for example by the Škoda Octavia RS (2.0TDi, 125kW, 350Nm).
Continental is the only competitor in the high-pressure diesel industry that has no diesel history until 2000, when it came to the market (still under the Siemens VDO brand) with the common rail system and the piezo-effect injectors. Unlike its competitors, Continental only supplies systems with piezoelectric injectors.
Interestingly, since the end of 2006, Continental has been producing high-pressure pumps for the common rail system in the Czech Republic - at its Trutnov plant.
The most important customers of this company's high-pressure diesel injection systems are: Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Suzuki, Sonalica
